For those of you living in Canada, there’s a certain set of bragging rights that come with braving subzero temperatures. When it’s below zero, we embrace our identity as a northern nation. But that’s as far we go embracing the North.
This month, we partnered with Canada’s only Arctic-dedicated think tank, Arctic360, to use our platform to shine a light on the North. While Growcer partners with non-northern communities, schools, and grocery stores, the idea for Growcer started in Iqaluit and the North remains a key part of our story.
Throughout the month, we debunked myths, called attention to the effects of climate change, but also, highlighted innovation and entrepreneurship currently taking place.
In a guest column, Jessica Shadian, president of Arctic360, writes the qualities of the North that make it seem "inopportune for innovation," are the same qualities that allow the North to be an opportunity. Shadian highlights innovation happening elsewhere in the arctic - from testing self-driving cars in Finland to building smart homes in Norway - to argue the North is Canada's missed opportunity.
